I am a sociologist at Illinois State University. My research program centers on the sociology of the environment, development, and rural livelihoods, with specific attention to mining conflicts in Central America. I teach the sociology of community and the environment. I also teach Sociological Inquiry,
an advanced introductory course for majors which focuses on
the sociological "toolbox:" critical thinking, clear and coherent
writing, research design, and core disciplinary concepts. I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and former non-profit manager.
